Great book! (2007-09-23)
This book has helped me tremendously in my class. I’m glad I bought it from Amazon b/c it was very affordable.

Using Book in Class (2001-09-19)
This is an interesting book. I am using it for my Writing for Mass Media class. The author puts at least 5-10 exercises at the end of each chapter for you to review the concepts which were talked throughout the chapter. Not really a sit down and read book, but does go over writing for media basics.

Hot Fun (2008-02-14)
How often can you find erotica that makes you laugh and turns on your burners at the same time? Monica, who all of her 32 years has been out of the sexual loop, suddenly finds herself in it with a vengeance. She’s dealing with two dominant aliens who know how to make her squirm and she finds, to her chagrin, that she loves it. Rotham has created a heroine who you can delight in and cheer for and an alpha and his buddy that won’t take no for an answer, thank goodness!Fun read (2008-01-20)
Like one of the other reviewers stated — not an orginal storyline but she put enough twists in to keep interest. Liked all the characters involved even tho I’m not into stories with threesomes it still was a good read.Alien Overnight (2008-01-07)
Dr. Monica Teague, aka Gothchild, has developed a hard, abrasive edge to keep the world from hurting her. Her developmentally challenged body has kept her apart from others, especially in the male-female relationship area. She always had a keen interest in science fiction as well as all things outer space related. Her secret desires for otherworldly travel is realized when the Garathani make contact with Earth. Dr. Teague jumps at the chance to help with the earth women chosen as sexual partners / breeders for the Garathani males whose female population was decimated by biological warfare. An abrupt change in her physiology occurs upon being inundated with Garathani male pheromones, which dangerously and painfully throw her into a rapid maturation process.

Commander Kellen is present for this sudden development and recognizes that Monica is a GarTer hybrid. He quickly takes the opportunity to register her as his mate with Lieutenant Schauss as a secondary mate to her. Kellen and Shauss are both extremely dominant and can’t wait for the chance to dominate Monica in the bedroom. Her abrasive and aggressive personality excites their Garathani nature and adds more spice to their encounters with Monica. Kellen and Shauss are thrilled at having Monica as their submissive, especially after their experiences under the matriarchy of their own society before the war. Can they except and care for Monica in more than a sexual / breeder capacity?

Alien Overnight is hot from page 1 on and just gets hotter. Monica’s struggle with the abrupt changes in her body while dealing with her first sexual experiences make you really empathize with her especially when having to deal with the dominant duo of Kellen and Shauss. You feel her come to terms with her desire to be dominated sexually but still needing something beyond the splendiferous, mind-blowing sexual encounters with her dominant duo. Watching Kellen and Shauss, who have issues to work through with each other as well as within themselves, adds another dimension to this story. This story grabbed my attention and immediately drew me into the interpersonal dynamics of the heroes and heroine. If you crave some spicy, smokin’ hot love scenes and a book you just can’t put down then this is the one for you.

I loved this book. It was hot. Plenty of sex scenes without having them thrown in just to have another sex scene. Keep up the good work.Sci-fi (2007-11-30)
I enjoy sci-fi romances, this was a 3 1/2 to 4 star story for me, the story line was real interesting, but the alien mens private parts were somewhat weird, real weird.

This book is great!I got it cause i needed a review and dint have the privilidge of time. Its very well written, goes through basic concepts in detail and makes it easy for the reader to go through it.Either you are a graduate student in need of some review or a clinician who needs an easy reference booklet, then this book is an excellent choice!!very helpful cardio phys text (2005-10-31)
the mohrman text is very concisely and accurately written. very helpful diagrams and well-written (but extremely dense) text. pretty essential for my med school physiology courseThis book is good! (2004-06-26)
This book presents CV physiology very well. It highlights all the important concepts of the subject and includes good examples and adequate diagrams. The material is presented in a clear fashion. I wish I had this book during my medical physiology course, but I am glad I have it now and I plan on reading it a couple of times for Step I review. The only thing this book could use are some charts and tables, but in conjunction with BRS Physiology, I feel like I can master this subject for the boards.

The Semi-e Dream book (2007-05-12)
Its ok but I thought it was going to be more step by step and its not. Good book thow.A Bit Shallow (2006-11-10)
Very nice pictures and some good description on Sumi-e dreamjourney painting. However, as an artist looking for more detailed explanations on techniques, I was quite disappointed. If I was just interested in general ideas on this type of painting the book would be great, but as an artist I was disappointed in the way the material was presented. For example, loading the brush was glossed over.Good paintings, but not sumi-e (2005-01-19)
This book might be interesting as some artistic approach to make paintings. the paintings are not bad. But they are not sumi-e. They are rather aquarelle, that mimics eastern paintings.

IMHO the key thing, that makes Yolanda paintings look different is her technique of brushstokes, which are very typical to the western aquarelle school. The original sumi-e brushstrokes are based on brushstokes of chinese (well, and japanese as well) calligraphy, and this is one of the characteristics that variate paintings of differnt masters.

Still, the book text is a good transcription of sumi-e/brush painting concept. Just for the painting examples I’d suggest to look at the works of the “original” artists.

A real "dream" for those interested in Sumi-e Painting (2004-04-08)

Being an afficionado of Chinese Brush painting, I was intrigued when I first saw this book. I’m not easily impressed by art books, and I’ve reviewed hundreds over the years, but this is one of those books that actually surprised me. It really is a dream for artists intersted in the brush painting of China and Japan. Here’s why…

Mayhall’s style is both beautiful and spontaneous, and the imagery in this book is breathtaking. What is really refreshing about this book, however, is that it isn’t just another *how to* brush technique book. While she does go into great detail on history, materials, technique, and subject matter, the artist puts you into the mindset of a Sumi-e artist. Rather than simply show her readers "how" to paint, Mayhall encourages them to begin their own journey into Sumi-e "dream" painting, and equips them with the knowledge necessary to find their own artistic voice. She states, "it is not only the subject that gives life to art, it is the spirit that is within the artist’s genius." Well said!

Material covered in this text includes:
* Chapter 1 - A Brief History of Sumi-e
* Chapter 2 - Studying the Dream Journey Painters of China and Japan
* Chapter 3 - Starting on Your Own Dream Journey (tools, brush strokes)
* Chapter 4 - Practicing the Four Gentlemen (bamboo, wild orchid, chrysanthemum, plum branch)
* Chapter 5 - Beginning the Creative Process (incorporating the four gentlemen)
* Chapter 6 - Learning Advanced Brush Strokes for Birds & Flowers (Yo birds, iris, hummingbirds & its flowers)
* Chapter 7 - Internalizing the Three Essential Elements of Sumi-e (creativity, composition, color)
* Chapter 8 - Planning the Journey (sketching, structure, Exploring new techniques, beginning your dream journey)
* Chapter 9 - Dreaming (more ideas & demonstrations)
* Chapter 10 - Enhancing Your Dream Paintings (calligraphy)

If you’re interested in the brush painting style of China and Japan, or would like to incorporate these techniques into your watercolor and/or ink painting, I recommend this book along with "Chinese Painting Techniques for Exquisite Watercolors" by Lian Quan Zhen… two excellent books to inspire you and bring your own artistic dreams to life.Friend and admirer (2003-07-17)
As a long time friend and collector of Yolanda’s beautiful paintings, I was overjoyed to see her latest book. I have found it to be not only well organized and illustrated but written in a style that is easily understood and followed. The inclusion of historical and contemporary works accompanied by poetic translations elevates the instructional format to a book to be cherished for its contribution to understanding the mysterious and ancient culture of Japan.

As the title says: "Magnifico!" (2000-07-02)
Having travelled to Puerto Rico dozens of times over the past twenty years (and I lived there for a time as well), I have to say this is absolutely the most impressive and complete "coffee-table" book on the island that I have ever seen. It is large-format, filled with superb color photographs (including a lot of aerials and a fascinating "then and now" chapter of archival pictures side-by-side with the same scene as it is today). And the text doesn’t insult your intelligence — it’s a concise overview of Puerto Rico’s history. An added plus is the Spanish translation (done by a Puerto Rican translator) at the back of the book — too many books about Puerto Rico ignore the island’s linguistic heritage! I’ve given several copies to friends who love the island. The jacket blurb says the author was once a Peace Corps Volunteer, and it shows … this is a real in-depth portrait, not just "post-cardy" superficial coverage.Magnificent Arm Chair Travel (2000-06-13)
For anyone familiar or unfamiliar with Puerto Rico, this superb pictorial and eloquently written portrait of this country, its culture, its people and its history, will bring the reader palpably close to the very pulse of the island. Page after page of breathtaking photography and descriptive narrative succeed in transporting you to the the subject matter at hand. Both visually and verbally, this book lifts you right off each page as it gives you a soaring birdseye view of one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful island destinations. The overall impact of this book on one’s senses can only be exceeded by actually being there. Otherwise, be prepared for some unsurpassable armchair travel. The ultimate guide to Puerto Rico. (2000-05-31)
This stunner provides you with two books rolled into one, a beautiful and timeless collection of more than 100 lush photographs as well as an easy-to-read history of Puerto Rico. It is apparent from the obvious care and attention to detail that went into this book that the author is both dedicated to his craft and enamored of the people and island that he is profiling. The book depicts the great diversity of Puerto Rico — from the hustle and bustle of its urban centers (including the grand architectural heritage) to the most desolate and pristine parts of the island, shown both in close-up and from the air. The stars of the book are the people themselves, who act as guides to the island and invite you to visit them for the first time or simply to return again as old friends. A highly recommended work.

Customer Reviews:
A Jewel of a book (2008-03-01)
This book is a jewel in the crown of the Wallflowers series, and it is the diamond. Lisa Kleypas, always such a wonderful historical writer, really achieves something with not only the series but this book in particular. I have been reading romance for the past 24 years, and this is one of my top 3 favorite romance novles of all time. And Lord Westcliff is second only to Mr. Darcy on my list of best heroes. Marcus is just……..perfect, especially in his imperfections.

There are similar notes in “It Happened One Autumn” to “Pride and Prejudice,” but they are rather more of a nod or a passing glance than an outright mimic. When Westcliff and Lillian meet (read Secrets of a Summer Night first — their first encounter is not to be missed!) they are immediately at odds, both pride and prejudice giving each the wrong impression of the other. And while both Westcliff and Lillian are very close to their siblings, and Lillian’s mother is another social climbing disaster, that is really where the similarities end. Lillian is rich, and yet a wallflower. Elizabeth is poor, yet popular. Though both do have “fine eyes.”

Darcy and Westcliff both become stiff-necked and pompus, but where Darcy broods alone, Westcliff is more of a social creature. Darcy is tall and of a slimmer build, where Westcliff is muscular and medium hight. Darcy is a romantic ideal, and Westcliff is just sexy as hell.

When Lillian and Westcliff get together, you feel it leaping off the page. And the thing about them that I loved the most was that Lillian could make Westcliff laugh, and he could make her feel loved for exactly who she is. It is so real, so believable a love that they make you just sigh in blissful reading happi-tude. Having met and been intrigued by Westcliff in two (I think it is just two) books previous to this one, I was waiting for his story, hoping he got a great romance, hoping that his turn wouldn’t disappoint me, and boy did I not have to worry. He got exactly the perfect love for him, and I’m so glad he and Lillian will be around for other books after this one. It is hard to let them go!

I could go on and on, but I don’t want you to keep reading what I’ve written. Buy this book and read what Kleypas has written. Better yet, get the whole Wallflower series in sequence (Daisy’s book is my least favorite, but that is like saying one piece of Godiva chocolate in the box is my least favorite) and read it. You, like me, will be savoring these chocolates for years to come. When exactly did they fall in love? (2007-12-03)
The story was OK. Marcus and Lillian were both strong, likable characters but since Lillian spent most of the book being courted by Lord St. Vincent and Westcliff spent most of the book avoiding or ignoring her I would love to know when they managed to fall in love with each other. They went from passionate hate and enmity to everlasting love. Not realistic at all. Not bad… just not realisticForget about reading them in order. Just read and enjoy. (2007-11-04)
As I’m sure you realize by now, this is the second in the “wallflower” series by Lisa Kleypas. I have not read the books in order, this one just came up as the one I chose when I closed my eyes and reached into the box. (I have so many books to read I should be ashamed of myself for buying more than I can read, but I’m not. Buying books is a compulsion for me. Some of my friends buy shoes, I buy books [and purses!] but we will just overlook that little purse thing. Purses are essential to life, right?)

Now, about this book. I am a fan of the writing of Lisa Kleypas. Some of her books I like more than others but I don’t think I’ve ever read one of her books which I would rate below a three. I thoroughly enjoy the “wallflower” concept. All four of the girls are completely different. They strike me as real, honest-to-goodness people. I like for an author to make me believe that I could meet their heroine and get to know her. Lillian Bowman is the daughter of a very wealthy American. She is a wallflower because of her unwillingness to control her tongue, bow and scrape to the English peerage and subjugate her intelligence in order to make a man feel superior. The only fault I found with Lillian was that she often carried her rebellious ways too far and got herself into needless trouble. But, and here is the point in Lillians favor, that turned out to be just exactly what Marcus, Lord Westcliff found so stimulating about her.

Marcus did NOT want to be attracted to Lillian. He did not want to consider marriage to any woman but Lillian should have been so far down his list as to be completely off the page. Yet, despite everything he tried to do, he could not resist watching her, and being intrigued by her. The whole “magic” perfume theme was O.K. for a while but I was glad when it began to take a backseat to the fact that Marcus couldn’t stay away from Lillian just because she was Lillian. Very, very satisfying for me.

I do recommend this book. I don’t think it matters one whit whether you read these books in order or not. This is my third one with only Daisy’s story to go. If I had to rank them right now, DEVIL IN WINTER is absolutely, totally, unequivocally first. Then Annabelle and Lillian have to fight it out for second. Who knows, Daisy just MIGHT move Evie out of first place but I don’t think so.…a thin line between love and hate (2007-09-24)
This is the second in the Wallflower quartet and in my opinion is much better than the first (Summer).

This is Lillian and Marcus’s story. I was intriqued to see what their story would be like after meeting them in Secrets of a Summer Night. Let me tell you, I wasn’t disappointed. Lillan is a real treat of a heroine. She swears, plays “baseball” with the boys, and has a temper on her. I loved it!

Marcus is a straight-laced, serious, by the book hero. Lillian storms in to his life and literally “rocks” his world. He does his very best to reason around why the two of them would never work, but is really is futile! Throughout the book we come to understand why Marcus is the way he is, and after meeting his hateful mother we only love Marcus even more.

The love scenes are scorching so be prepared!!! The end of the book features the Viscount St. Vincent and my only question is how I’ll ever be able to buy into him as the hero in the next book. He really does despicable things….I hope that the saying “Reformed rakes make the best husbands” rings true.

Enjoy It Happened One Autumn..it’s worth the read.American Girl takes on British Nobility (2007-09-11)
Lillian Bowman, an American heiress, is one of the four young women who call themselves the wallflowers. In this second installment of the series, headstrong, spirited Lillian, her sister Daisy and her parents are attending a month long party held at Lord Westman’s estate. Marcus, Lord Westman, is the ultimate in uptight, superior English snobbiness and Lillian cannot stand him. Lillian and her sister need a sponsor to help them gain a husband from the English nobility and that sponsor comes in the form of Marcus’s mother, a cold hearted woman who thinks preserving their bloodline is the most important thing her family can do. After sneaking out to cause some mischief, Lillian runs into Marcus who loses his head and kisses her passionately. Believing Marcus is bewitched by a secret ingredient in a perfume made just for her, Lillian enlists the other wallflowers to help in an experiment to see if the perfume has the same effect on all women. Soon Lillian discovers there is more to Marcus than the facade he presents to the public and she wishes more than anything that she can have him, but she knows he will never marry an American no matter how rich. Marcus is stunned to find himself so strongly affected by Miss Lillian Bowman, even in his affairs he has always been able to maintain a dignified presence but everytime he sees Lillian he loses all control….maybe even considering marriage.

This was an amusing, fast paced sweet romance and I have hopes that the last two stories will compare to the first two in the series. Marcus mother is the ultimate in cold hearted witches, and St. Vincent sufficiently wicked in his competition for Lillian. St. Vincent will be featured in Evie’s story which is the third and next book in this series.

Crack the book (2008-04-02)
When you read a book that could be written without so many pages is a bad book. This book is long-winded and sometimes boring. Maybe the MAIN story is good but you’ll need to find it and that will be a strenuous endeavor.

Loved it! (2008-01-30)
I did not read the book, but instead listened to the audio book version.

I must say I loved it. The plot may be a little weak, but I fell hard for Mike Bennetts character. I hope there will be more books in the works with him as the lead. He is my kind of hero.

Write on,

Petra Lozano

Author2UBooks.ning.comPatterson Should Be Ashamed (2008-01-08)
Patterson should not have stooped so low to put his name on such a poor infantile book. It is a formula book that reads like a comic book. Total trash! Not His Best ; However, Far From His Worst ! (2008-01-05)
I have such a difficult time with Mr. Patterson, I continue to read his novels eventhough at times they are just not the quality that I know he is capable of writing. “Step On A Crack” sat on my shelf for several months before I picked it up. I read it in one sitting and I enjoyed it. True, the plot was intriguing (the funeral of a former first lady, whereas the celebrities in attendance are held hostage in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral). The characterization is thin, you never get to really know anyone too well. The relationship between our main character, Mike Bennett, and his wife who is terminally ill, almost becomes artificial as after she succumbs to her cancer her husband is back at work almost the next day (now, really). Additionally, they are parents to ten children who somehow find Christmas presents under the tree on Christmas morning eventhough Mom has been hospitalized and Dad has been on the case at St. Patty’s almost 24/7. Anyway, my frustration continues, I’ll continue to read Patterson’s efforts as they are always a fast read and for the most part are page turners. His conclusions of late continue to dissapoint me. The reality is one of the reasons I read his stuff in the first place is because it is total escapism reading for me. Mr. Patterson is not my author of choice for good literature…but lets face it, he is doing something right because so many of us have a difficult time not grabbing a copy of his novels as soon as they hit the book stands. So James, I have some of your other recent novels on my shelf and I will read them as well, however I look forward to the day when your next novel will be the read that will be reminiscent of your earlier work.after a decent start, this book just goes bad (2007-12-30)
Every once and a while it seems that Patterson, or perhaps its one of his co-writers, pulls out a pretty good idea and runs with it. This is a concept genre, and as a concept, it is sort of interesting. The presidents wife is assassinated while eating dinner. It looks like murder. Only when she has her funeral at St. Pat’s in NY, her memorial is over run by what might be terrorists. All of the celebrities and political power-houses are then held as hostage while the world looks on.

I have to admit, this book had me for a while. As it unfolded, I was pretty interested to see exactly where it was going. However, once Patterson has laid out the entire concept, it feels to me like he did not know exactly where to go with it. In the end, the story becomes stupid and the writing becomes less cared for.

I would suggest that you stay away from this book. Not good at all
